Teenagers making potential life journey moves like have children in high school and mid 30’s independent fully grown up women acting like school girls. All done with the humour of her usual female tackling modern western first world life themes as a writer. While Young Adult 2011 is a black comedy piece of cinema to be enjoyed as a study through film of people who do not grow emotionally, it’s also a great vehicle to remind audiences that Charlize Theron is truly a talented Hollywood actress, with ability past mainstream beauty.

The extraordinary UK film pop culture relevance of ‘Trainspotting’ (1996) in independent British cinema is almost unmatched even today in 2017. Many areas of discussion surrounding the film and it’s reputation are somewhat superficial to do with 90s Cool Britannia fashion, music, cool looking cinematography. It is actually a very socially conscious film about the story of one disillusioned young mans battle with heroine addiction to escape his dead end life in Scotland as he tries to figure his life out.

Although technically the usual macabre murder mystery it cleverly addresses it in a school environment showcasing that people usually never grow up. The themes mirror and match those seen in adult crime thrillers. Tackling murder, promiscuity, drug use, bullying and selfish behaviour of individuals.

There is no mundane everyday working week life here, there’s ethnic fashion, romance, glamour, beautiful Indian women who can sing and dance but also independent and smart.

A prestigious expensive future Artificial Intelligence tech company creates a system for this but it’s in infancy stages. It also explores modern west superficiality of beauty, fame, success and life in New York through one lead male character David Aames (Tom Cruise) whose life changes after a car crash. I personally as a major cinema and film fanatic enjoy this kind of sub genre of science fiction the most. It delves into human memory and impact of different circumstances affecting the life span and course of individual people rather than spaceships, technology and aliens in the rather more literal focus.

It depicts a very sincere lead character in unfortunate rather than the scary young ethnic criminal often represented in mainstream news outlets daily in cities across the UK.

It also manages to touch on grande elements of time travel and science fiction exploring moments and coincidences in life which are unexplained due to time, it’s past and present effects on people which create a dramatic circle of life in the big scheme of things. It’s complex and grande in scale, visual delivery and entire plot narrative. It’s ‘Cloud Atlas’ big basically.
